Pilgrims Wey Challenge

Saturday 29th December 2012

PWC’12

Update 23 December 2012 - Last minute entry details

If online entries run out for the course of your choice there should still be some EOD. I have a handful of spare maps in reserve and also 15 all controls maps which I can make up to a specific course on the day. If online entries are full for your course you can email me (below) and I will reserve maps during 28th December on a first come first served basis (Please note I am now away on holiday until 28th December and will not respond to emails until then).

Event details

The Pilgrims Wey Challenge (PWC) is a trail race around footpaths, bridleways and lanes on the south side of Guildford using elements of the Pilgrims Way footpath and the River Wey Navigation. The route is not marked - a map is needed to navigate the route, with checkpoints along the way. There are 3 courses - long, medium and short. The inaugural PWC event took place on August bank holiday Sunday in 2011. Check out the GO website for last years results.

All courses use public footpaths, bridleways and some minor roads. There will be an A road or two to cross but none to run along, and none should be particularly busy (the C course only crosses one small minor road). On the long courses there may be also be a railway line to cross. Please note that "Juniors" must be aged 16+ on the day of the event. Due to last minute parking complications involving football matches at Shalford Park, we will use Newlands Corner again as the base for this years event. Courses will be of similar lengths to last year (and this time I have worked out expected actual distances). Some controls and some legs will be the same as last year, but there will be some new routes and at least 1 steep climb on all courses.

A 17.2km straight line 21.6km approx actual 13 controls
B 11.8km 14.3km 9 controls
C 7.3km 8.4km 6 controls
